White House says Syria’s Assad preparing another chemical attack, warns of ‘heavy’ penalty

The White House provided a threatening warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday night, pledging that his program would pay a “heavy price” if it carried out another chemical attack this year. “The United States has identified prospective preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad program that would likely lead to the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children,” Spicer stated in a declaration. The Navy introduced Tomahawk rockets at a Syrian military airfield April 6 in reaction to a previous alleged chemical weapons attack, using two guided-missile destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the USS Ross and USS Porter, to do so.
