Anti-tax activist Tim Eyman launched a brand-new initiative Tuesday that intends to restore $30 cars and truck tabs. The new effort seeks to get rid of car weight costs enforced by state government, get rid of automobile costs enforced by cities, and eliminate all car-tab taxes imposed by Noise Transit. It would rather have chauffeurs statewide pay a flat, $30 dollar cost each year. 2 similar Eyman-led efforts, passed in 1999 and 2002 by voters, both required $30 tabs. Both of those efforts dealt with legal challenges and were eventually stated unconstitutional. Eyman said ever since, state and local governments have actually increased taxes and charges on car tabs, sending them “escalating” past 1999 rates.
