Dem Associate Castro: ‘Many Democrats’ Will Vote Against DACA Fix If It Consists Of Border Wall Funding

Sunday on MSNBC’s “Kasie DC,” Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) said “most Democrats” would vote against any variation of a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy repair that includes financing for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.Castro stated,”I

‘m still optimistic that the Congress can concern some sort of compromise on DACA so that we can ensure that 800,000 youths– the majority of whom have only understood the United States as their home– are not subject to deportation. I’m still optimistic about that. I believe we have to be optimistic about it. I’ve heard discussion about a border wall, however remember that this is no longer a matter of encouraging the American people to do something for the DACA kids– 83 percent of Americans support DACA relief. It’s a matter of persuading President Trump and the Republican majority in Congress to listen to the American people and do the right thing.”He continued,”I think that’s going to be a very difficult deal

for the president to make. We do not desire to trade the lives of 800,000 people for a wall across the United States. And bear in mind also, again, that the bulk of American people and most of individuals in Texas, for example, did not support President Trump’s border wall. We think that this is a problem that is unto itself, that DACA ought to be handled with a clean DREAM Act and if there are aspects of border security that President Trump and the Republicans desire to pursue, they can pursue that in separate legislation.”When asked if Democrats need to withhold votes from a costs to help DREAMers if it includes funding for the wall Castro stated,”

I will definitely vote against it, and I understand most Democrats will vote versus it. I can only speak for your home of Representatives, of course. In the Senate, they have various rules, and it’s a different matter, but I would suspect that you will have the frustrating majority of Democrats vote versus it, yes.”(h/t
